Understanding MBBS Seat Allocation

How Are MBBS Seats Divided Between MCC & Assam Counselling?

After NEET results are declared, seats are allocated through two parallel counselling streams — central (MCC) and state (the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam). Knowing which seats fall under which authority decides where and how you apply.

🇮🇳 Central Counselling

MCC — Medical Counselling Committee

Conducts counselling for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) of government college seats, open to students from any state. Also handles AIIMS, JIPMER, central and deemed universities.

Ministry of Health, Govt. of India · mcc.nic.in
🏛️ State Counselling

DME Assam — Directorate of Medical Education

Conducts Assam UG Medical & Dental Counselling for the 85% State Quota seats in Assam's government medical and dental colleges.

📌 Note: The 2026 Round 1 list filled 1,598 state-quota MBBS seats across 16 government colleges (dental seats excluded). DME Assam's seat matrix isn't in the documents we have, so seat numbers on this site are allotments, not the official matrix.

  • Selection is provisional — subject to all required documents under the UG admission rules at the time of reporting to the college.
  • "NA" in the lists means choice not available — the candidate got no seat in that round.
  • For domicile, eligibility, fees and exit rules, read the DME Assam prospectus — those aren't part of this site's data.

FAQs

Common Questions

In the DME Assam 2026 Round 1 list, Gauhati Medical College's last UR state-quota seat went to NEET AIR 16,327, and after Round 2 it was AIR 22,564 — the tightest UR cutoff in Assam, followed by Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh (28,377 in Round 1) and Pragjyotishpur Medical College, Guwahati (30,868). Use the Category Cutoffs tab to compare every category across colleges.
The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, at Sixmile, Khanapara, Guwahati, runs state counselling for the 85% state-quota MBBS and BDS seats in Assam's government medical and dental colleges. MCC fills the other 15% through the All India Quota.
DME Assam's notice of 28.08.2025 lists OBC/MOBC (NCL) 27%, SC 7%, ST (Plains) 10%, ST (Hills) 5% and EWS 6% for UG seats; the rest are Unreserved (UR). That notice is from 2025 and is the latest one in our documents.
Some OBC/MOBC seats are allotted to specific groups: Koch-Rajbongshi, Tai-Ahom, Chutia, Motak, Moran, and TGL/Ex-TGL (tea garden communities, separately for residents of the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys). If you belong to one, pick it in the predictor and it adds those seats; you're still checked for general OBC and UR seats.
Yes. UR seats go on merit, and the 2026 lists show many EWS, OBC, SC and ST candidates holding UR seats. The predictor checks your own category and UR automatically.
It's a seat swap between colleges: the candidate gets a seat at the listed college that is booked as UR, while a UR seat at the college in brackets becomes a seat of the candidate's category. These are really reserved-category admissions, so this site counts them under the candidate's own category — counting them as UR would inflate UR cutoffs (at GMC, to about AIR 60,000).
The Round 2 list is the full list of seat holders after Round 2: outside PwD, every college-category has the same number of seats filled in both rounds. The Round 2 cutoff is the last rank holding that category's seat after Round 2.
Round 1 filled 43 PwD seats; the Round 2 list shows only 17. The 26 PwD candidates who dropped out weren't replaced in the Round 2 list, so treat PwD Round 2 figures with care.
They are small special-category pools (a handful of seats in the whole state). Their allotments don't follow NEET-rank order, so a rank can't predict them; the College Explorer shows them for information only.
The documents we have don't include fees, and the figures on third-party sites disagree, so the site shows “Fee data pending”. Check the DME Assam prospectus or the college.
No. The allotment lists don't split seats by gender, so the predictor doesn't ask for it.
The domicile and eligibility rules are in the DME Assam prospectus, which isn't part of the data this site uses — check dme.assam.gov.in before you apply.
